December 2006 NAIW Honored by Dress for Success
One of NAIW-NYC’s favorite charities is Dress for Success whose mission is career development and retention programs for low income women all over the world.

Last year at our October 2006 meeting we collected clothing donations for the Dress for Success personal attire program.

The National Association of Insurance Women was pleased to be honored at Women Helping Women, A Breakfast Dedicated for Celebrating the Success of Women. NAIW was recognized for the exemplary support it has shown “Dress for Success and for embodying the ideal of ‘women helping women.’”

Jill Arnold of Dewitt Stern Group and a 2006-2008 Board Member accepted the award for NAIW-NYC.

November - December 2006 Sanctuary for Families
Also in December 2006, once again, NAIW-NYC members supported Sanctuary for Families by purchasing backpacks and gifts for the women and children who are part of the “Sarah Burke House,” a transitional home for women who come out of the shelter but need some help getting back on their feet.  Sanctuary for Families provides these families with legal help, medical services, counseling, etc. as the mothers begin working again and supporting their families. NAIW-NYC collected 40 gifts of which tags were chosen from a tree at the November meeting.  The gifts ranged from educational gifts for a 4-yr-old boy to music gift cards for teen-agers. 

According to the Sanctuary for Families website, “Sanctuary for Families envisions a society in which freedom from domestic violence is a basic human right.  We are dedicated to the safety, healing, and self-sufficiency of battered women and their children. To that end, we offer a broad range of high-quality services including shelter, legal assistance, and counseling.  We work to end domestic violence and its far-reaching impact through outreach, education, and advocacy, and to create a world where every woman and child lives with dignity.”

May – Industry Recognition Luncheon
On May 5, 2006, NAIW-NYC held its Annual Industry Recognition Luncheon at The Boathouse in Central Park. The keynote address was given by Sean Hannity of The Fox News Channel. (To read more about Mr. Hannity, click here.)

The proceeds of last year’s luncheon benefited the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Make-a-Wish Foundation.

The Outstanding Achiever Award went to Susan V. Hussar, Managing Director, Compliance Officer of March Inc. (To read more about Ms. Hussar, click here.)
